Local business owner Dave Harrison explains the benefits of a garden office. Mr Harrison was renting office space locally for over £500 a month to run his business Amox Design (a design consultancy specialising in timber frame construction). He decided he would rather invest that money by creating a space to work away from his home without adding overheads.
Mr Harrison came to GCS Leisure Buildings looking to design a garden building with two purposes in mind. He wanted a space to work and an area to socialise and relax with family and friends. We came up with a 3m x 5.1m 44mm log cabin. This would be split into two sections with enough room for his computer screen, desk, chair and storage units and a separate area for his garden bar. The design was made with double sliding doors to maximise natural light and bring the outside in during the warmer months.
Painted in light grey with anthracite doors and windows this gives a modern and stylish look. Dave was keen to personalise his interior and provide it with a quirky feel adding scaffold boards and industrial lighting. Dave has added electrics for a heater, lighting and most importantly a coffee station!
He is now reaping the rewards of working from home with the flexibility of being there for his children. He explained that 'the building will easily pay for itself with the money I am saving from renting office space.' Adding personal touches to his newly renovated garden room with a bar, a dartboard and as an avid football supporter Dave has his Newcastle United memorabilia proudly on display. It sounds like Dave has created the ideal space for productivity and relaxation. We hope that he continues to enjoy his newly renovated garden office for many years to come.
